The Production of a Series:

As part of a long-term project, my team and I worked on reporting and producing multi-media stories on recidivism — the likelihood of someone returning to prison — in Missouri. Throughout the production of this series, I edited work not only by junior reporters but that of my peers — including those on other teams.

Currently, the series has not been published, but it is in the hands of the Missouri School of Journalism’s newsroom for review.

This page will be uploaded with links should the work be published

Throughout the entirety of the production, I edited the teams’ scripts to be better for the ear.

Part 1:
Effectiveness of Missouri Prison Programs are in Question

This story is about the cyclical nature of recidivism.

Part 2:
Does the juvenile system change the trajectory of young offenders?

This story is about how the juvenile system in Missouri currently tries 17 year olds as adults, which could contribute to an individuals risk of recidivating.

Originally, a team of underclassmen produced this story. Editing it into its current form proved challenging due to the original reporting and the loss of audio files. It offered me a valuable experience in working with limited information.

Part 3:
Women’s entrepreneurship program prepares prisoners for employment

This story is about the ways in which former offenders can be reintegrated into society, and the barriers that they face in doing so.
